

Mrs. Dorothy Fay “Dot” Smalley, 92, of Chattanooga, passed away on Tuesday, May 9, 2017. Dot was born in St Elmo on September 30, 1924. She graduated from Chattanooga High School and University of Chattanooga. She was known as one who loved to serve others above herself. She loved her church, St Mark’s United Methodist Church, and was a faithful worker, serving in many different areas of ministry. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Smalley, her parents, William Brown Schoolfield and Faye (Cureton) Scoolfield, as well as her son, James W. Smalley. Survivors include her son, David M. Smalley (Linda); daughter-in-law, Charlotte Smalley; grandchildren, Tyler Smalley (Katy), Cameron Smalley (Diana), and Katherine Smalley; great grandchildren, Alyssa Smalley, Bryson Smalley, Caleb Smalley, and Isabella Smalley, Savannah Smalley, and Charity Smalley. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 11th from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel, Hixson. The funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 3:30 pm Thursday with Pastor Reed Shell officiating. Interment will be in the Chattanooga Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 7625 Hamilton Park Dr # 22, Chattanooga, TN 37421. Arrangements are under the care of the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
