Ed and I were classmates at Father Ryan High School in Nashville. We were good friends and enjoyed many good times together - some captured in photos that I treasure to this day. We had a shared interest in old cars. We continued to communicate by email over the years and occasionally by phone. It was just the other day (about a week ago) that I thought I should call him. It is so sad to lose a good friend. My sympathy goes out to Joyce and the rest of the family. Cherish the memories! May he rest in peace. I uploaded a class photo from our year book (1960). In the photo, I'm the one standing in the front row, with sunglasses, to the right of center. Ed is the third person to the right of me, slightly behind two other classmates who are also in the front row.

I met Ed at Vanderbilt Univ. in 1964 when we were graduate engineering students. Ed was a groomsman in my wedding in 1965 and I enjoyed his company always. Ed always made me feel welcome and I appreciated his friendship.

I am very sorry for your loss. I first met Dr. Foster my Freshman year at UTC. Then, when I had the privilege to have him as my professor, he immediately made an impact on me. He had me read "The Tower and the Bridge" which gave me such an appreciation for and love of Structural Engineering. He was always so kind and willing to offer advice/help if needed. He was a great man! He also was a phenomenal professor and I learned so much from him that I still use every day.

Thank you Dr. Foster!!

Lamentations 3:21-26(KJV) 21 This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. 22 It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. 24 The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. 25 The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. 26 It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord.

I went through the civil engineering program at UTC from 2001-2003. I had Dr. Foster for 4 classes! He was one of my favorite professors who clearly loved to teach. I remember many times going to his office for help. He would answer my questions quickly and then we'd just hang out and chat. He loved being around the students. After graduation, I always looked forward to bumping into him at a professional meeting or university event. He always asked me about my family. I will truly miss not knowing he's around. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

I know Ed through the American Society of Civil Engineers. He was well-liked and always willing to lend a hand. He's been a big help with our scholarship committee and a positive spirit. His influence and personality will be missed.
