“Miss Effie” as she was affectionately known never met a stranger in her life. Her friendly, outgoing personality and caring heart were evident in her life and in the love she gave to her children and family. She showed dedication and compassion for the children she transported in her role as a Special Education Bus Driver for more than 30 years in Hamilton County, Tennessee. The many trips she made with them to the Special Olympics in Nashville were some of her most favorite memories. Effie had a heart for those less fortunate and was always buying small treats for her “kids” on the bus.
Effie left school at the age of 16, because her family needed her help. She exhibited a strong work ethic that continued until her retirement. She lived through some hard times but managed to have fun with her friends along the way and never lost her sense of humor.
She loved bright, sunny Saturdays with the promise of finding unforeseen treasures at local flea markets and thrift stores – always looking for, as she said, “good stuff”.
Effie lived and loved with a passion throughout her life and she will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Keith, Mitzi and Mark Boyd. Sister, Carroll Tanner, Grandchildren – Jeremiah (Michelle) Buchanan, Kelly (Blake) Hines and Nicholas (Amanda) Boyd. Great-grandchildren, Hadley & Devin Buchanan and Maverick Hines. Nieces Diane (Steve) Sells, Patti Grant & Barbara (Gene) Shannon. Nephews, Charles Tanner and Don Myers. Special family friends, Teresa, Becca, Miles & Marcus, Novalee Rymer and Phyllis and Clarence Neal.
