We are saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Sister, Mother and Grandmother, Anna (Elise) Walker Disbrow. She passed peacefully on Tuesday evening, April 4th in Chattanooga, TN at the age of 90.
Elise was born on Monday, December 12th in 1932, and spent the next 4,712 weeks (32,985 days!) being one of the finest people ever to walk this Earth. Growing up in Alton Park, she was born right in the middle of Houston and Grace Walker’s 5 children. Her sisters Catherine and Gail, and brothers, Herbert and Jimmy, provided her with dozens of wonderful memories, and fantastic stories to tell her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A few of these stories aren’t repeatable in polite company, but most were, and she was only too happy to share them.
She worked at the original Coke bottling plant (where Patton Parkway is now) and later took a job at DuPont, where she worked for 30+ years, clawing her way to the middle. Fortunately, at that point in history, even the middle was good enough for a fantastic pension and she retired in 1985 to spend more time pestering her only son for grandchildren. Eventually, she got her wish and she was blessed with 3 grandchildren. They were the absolute loves of her life and she spoiled them as rotten as possible, much to the dismay of their parents.
Elise was also a favorite of her nieces and nephews, who referred to her as “Aunt Eish.” Over the years she organized multiple family trips to Florida, Six Flags and Pigeon Forge, always with one or more cousins piling in the car.
She was very stoic, and rarely complained about anything. It’s a cliché, but she truly never met a stranger, and anyone that spent more than 5 minutes with her liked her.
She is survived by her beloved sister Catherine, her son Steven, and her grandchildren Maia, Logan and Benjamin. She was loved more than she could possibly know and she will be missed more than anyone reading this can imagine.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm -2:00 pm Saturday, April 8th at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel, Hixson. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Chattanooga Memorial Park (Duck Pond).
Arrangements are under the care of the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson. Please share your thoughts and memories at www.chattanooganorthchapel.com
