It is with profound sorrow that the family of Elizabeth Isabelle Dahlstrom, more affectionately known as Betty, announce her peaceful passing on the 30th day of September in the year 2024, in the comforting presence of family in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Betty blessed this world on April 17, 1926, in Orlando, Florida, and throughout her 98 years, she embodied the virtues of strength, benevolence, and wisdom.
Educated in Marinette, Wisconsin, Betty pursued higher academic achievements at the University of Wisconsin and the Medical College of Virginia. Her vocational endeavors as a skilled Medical Dietician led her to a commendable career where she tirelessly served as the founder of the Food Services Department at Orange Grove School and played a vital role in establishing the Chattanooga Food Bank and Chattanooga Senior Neighbors.
Betty, a fervent gardener, bibliophile, and voyager, found great joy in the serene moments tending to her plants, engrossed in literature, and creating lasting memories with her family during vacations. As an active participant of the Skylarks Travel Club, her adventurous spirit was manifest in the many journeys she undertook to the Caribbean.
A devout and active member of St. Jude’s Catholic Church of Chattanooga, Betty’s deep-rooted faith shaped her life and actions, encouraging her commitment to support those around her. The church provided the foundation for her extensive charitable work, leaving a legacy enriched by spiritual devotion and active faith.
Left to carry on her legacy are her beloved children, David L. Dahlstrom, Anne M. James, and Richard F. Dahlstrom; her six cherished grandchildren; her adored six great-grandchildren and her sister Patricia von Unschuld.. Betty ascends to join her dear husband, Richard L. Dahlstrom; her son, Patrick C. Dahlstrom; and her parents, Jesse D. and Mildred B. Frankland, who preceded her in passing.
The family wants to thank Betty’s loyal friend and caregiver, Ann Burney, who was at her side for many years and is loved dearly by all the family. We also thank the gentle care provided by Chattanooga Hearth Hospice Care.
A memorial service celebrating Betty's life will be conducted at St. Jude’s Catholic Church, 930 Ashland Terrace, Chattanooga, TN 37415 at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2024. Interment will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
Betty's life, marked by her compassionate heart, kind deeds, and enduring connections, will be solemnly remembered and eternally cherished.
