Raye was born and raised in Decatur, Tennessee to the late John and Addie Alice Wright. Raye was a natural storyteller, was sharp as a tack, quick with a joke or a knowing look. She was never one to hang up a phone call early, unless another one with a better story was waiting. She loved her husband, Jim Haney, for all 64 years they had been together. She was proud of their sons, Tony and Todd. And her seven grandchildren were her prize. She was a seamstress for many years, and the detailed stiches she put into her work were as precise as the love she stitched into the lives of those around her. Raye and her late husband Jim owned and operated Haney Service Company. She was a longtime member of Delashmitt Road Baptist Church.
Raye was preceded in death by her husband, James “Jim” Haney.
Raye is survived by her two sons, Tony (Renae) Haney and Todd Haney; grandchildren, Beth (Adam) Reed, Brooke (Ronnie Dooley), Blake Haney, Brittany (Michael) Everett, Bubba (Brittany) Haney, Becca (Nick) Thomas, and Brandon (Maggie) Haney; 12 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 pm on Wednesday, November 5, and 9 to 9:30 am on Thursday at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life Service for Raye will follow at 9:30 am on Thursday, at the North Chapel with Pastor Ronnie Smith, and Doug Hinshaw officiating.
Burial will be in National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her late husband.
