

Estella “Snook” Vistula Maddox Erwin peacefully left this world March 6, 2020, in her home with her family by her side. Estella was a long-time resident of Hixson, TN, and graduated valedictorian of Meigs County High School, class of 1950. She retired as floral manager from Kroger at Northgate after more than thirty-two years of employment. Estella was a faithful member of Delashmitt Road Baptist Church for over 65 years and was well known for her singing voice, a fiery personality, and boisterous sense of humor. She boasted a beautifully maintained garden, an open-door policy to those she loved, and a beautiful family including three children, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren who knew her best as “Nanny”. She is preceded in death by her devoted husband of 70 years, John B. Erwin, Jr. and her eldest son, John B. Erwin, III; half-siblings Juanita Woody and Arnold Maddox, as well as her parents Fred and Veda Maddox. She is survived by her children Adonas Erwin Woolwine, Gary Taylor Erwin (Sonia) and daughter-in-law Beverly Elkins Erwin; granddaughters Lindsay Marie Ashley (Matthew), Samantha Gabrielle Erwin, and Meghan Nichole Erwin; great-grandchildren Makayla Jade Love, Malachi Bryant Love, Bryson Knox Love, and Charlotte Elizabeth Ashley. She also leaves behind siblings Louise Underwood and Buster Maddox. The Erwins would like to thank Kindred Hospice and especially Breonna Estill and Katherine Teeters for their vigilant and heartfelt care of Estella for the last several months. Visitation will be held from 2 pm to 8 pm Monday, March 9th with celebration services at 3 pm Tuesday, March 10th by Rev. Ronnie Smith at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel, Hixson. Burial to follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
