Everett was my great grandfather. He was and always will be one of the best men in my life. I miss him every single day. 

When I first arrived at my new school,  in 1986, I remember meeting Mr. Fairchild.  I could sense right away he wasn't your stay in his office type of principal.  I would often see him out in the halls during class changes, talking with students and teachers. He was  so engaged.  I wound up in his office a few times, but he was always fair.  A genuine person, Hixson has lost it's great champion.  Rest in peace Mr. Fairchild, we have the watch.

Most memories are of Mr. Fairchild as our principal; he was firm, but fair. We needed that at our ages or at least I did. So sorry to hear of his passing.

Words cannot express my love and respect for Everett Fairchild. His devotion to education and our youth has made our community and the world a better place to live. He will be missed. My prayers are with the family and friends.



Mr. Fairchild was a thoughtful neighbor and educator who enriched the lives of those around him. He will be missed by many.

Mr. Fairchild was a dedicated educator and faithful member of the Hixson Kiwanis Club for many years. I know my own father, Howard Sompayrac, appreciated Mr. Fairchild's dedication to the community over his many decades of devoted service. Mr. Faitchild was one of a kind, and he will be missed.

Mr. Fairchild was truly the heart of Hixson Jr. High and the Hixson community. He led the school with compassion,   kindness, and dignity. There was never a doubt that he loved all his students and wanted nothing less than the best for each. Mr. Fairchild will be sorely missed but never forgotten. 

Mr. Faitchild was my principal from 1976 to 1979. He was a great mentor to all his students and took time for each and everyone of them. He ran a tight ship but with a soft loving hand. It would be neat to know just how many young lives he influenced at Hixson Jr. High School. I can still hear his calming voice,  that everyone knew was fun loving, but on the other hand they also knew when that voice meant business . In todays schools. I feel Mr. Fairchild would have a hard time being a principal,  because he would want prayer and the Bible involved in his school. I know that he helped to shape me as a person, and am very thankful for his wisdoms he passed to me. His son David and I were friends throughout our school years and were in JRROTC together at Hixson High School. Once Mr. Fairchild left the school as a principal,  he went on to affect the lives of many more students by serving on the school board. So it is easy to say Mr. Fairchild really wanted to help and teach children as his life time desire.  I did end up in his office a few times, but that was education that I also learned from him which taught me respect and the importance of following the rules of life. Mr. Fairchild will be missed greatly but his legacy will live on through all of his students. Thanks!!!!!

Mr. Fairchild was the principal for my sisters, brother and me,  during the 70’s to late 70’s at Hixson Jr High.  He was one of the kindest people ever.  He always made time to talk with the students and made everyone feel their issue was the most important thing he was working on.  I have even spoken of him to my kids.  He was a great man who was  admired and loved by those who were lucky enough to know him.  Rest easy sir.  

I’ve known Mr. Fairchild since I was a little boy.  He allowed the girls my parents couched in basketball. He was a very thoughtful, caring person. He was also my principal at Hixson Jr. High School in 8th and 9th grade. He remembered every student by there name even he hadn’t seen or talked to in years. This man will be missed. R.I.P. Mr. Fairchild, 

Everett was my Sunday School teacher when I was 19 and moved to Chattanooga and the reason I became a teacher. He called Mack Franklin and recommended me for a position at East Ridge High School where I taught the first 15 years of my 30 year career.  He was a great man yet so humble and I owe so much of who I am today to him.

Mr Fairchild was a good man and great educator. I attended Hixson schools with son David. I always found him to be a fair and passionate educator and principal. He loved his family, school, students and community. He will be missed by all who knew him.  Hixson Jr. High 76-79, class of ‘82.

Thank you, Mr. Fairchild, for being so good to me.  We were lucky to have you as our principal.  

I worked as a parent volunteer at Hixson Junior High School back in the mid 1980’s.  Mr. Fairchild was kind, soft spoken and so helpful to me. I looked forward to my once/twice a week trips to ‘school’.  His fair, gentle yet firm way of handling the students resulted in them having a great deal of respect for him.  We need more men as Mr. Fairchild. 
I am sending love and prayers for God’s comfort to the family.

In 1988 I transfer to Hixson Jr. High School, as and a African-American student in a predominantly white environment. The following February I asked Mr. Fairchild, "Why Hixson didn't the school celebrate black history month?" The very next day he began highlighting a African-American's who made extraordinary contributions to the world we live in.  Rest Well Mr. Fairchild!!!

If you ever wanted to see a perfect role model for a servant leader. It would be this man. RIP. 

Mr. Fairchild was my principal at Hixson Junior High School.  He was always firm, fair, and friendly.  I will never forget the morning prayers on the P.A. system.  May God comfort the family.

The world has lost a great man.  Everett was a good man and a faithful servant to his community.  He was one of the most remarkable people I’ve ever met.  I was honored to have known him.
