
George Condra Knox, Sr. passed away on December 25, 2011. George was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on October 4, 1915, the son of Mr. And Mrs. David Knox. He lived with his parents and was a graduate from Chattanooga High School and was a graduate of University of Chattanooga.
He was married to Mrs. Effie Lou Knox who passed away September 29, 2006. They were married in Patten Chapel of the University of Chattanooga. They are parents of two children, George C. Knox, Jr. and Jean Hill Knox. George spent three years from 1944 to 1946 in the U. S. Army and served in the Pacific and the occupancy of Japan. George had a successful sales operation until age seventy-five.
George and Effie Lou were long time residents of Signal Mountain where they were life members of the Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church. He and Effie Lou were early supporters of Orange Grove Center. He was also active in planning for Orange Grove’s “GG” Summer Camp. He and Effie Lou were long-term supporters of the Orange Grove Center and participated in the startup of the residential program. George and Effie Lou also served as members of the board of Good Will Industries.
He is survived by his son, George C. Knox, Jr.; Daughter-in-law Constance M. Knox and Daughter Jean Hill Knox. He has two Grandsons George C. Knox, III and James M. Knox; and one Great-granddaughter Katie Carolyn Knox.
There will be a service at 11:00 a.m. Thursday December 29 at the Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church to celebrate George’s resurrection.
The family will be receiving friends in the church parlor following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in George’s name to Orange Grove Center, designated for the Residents program.
