He was born on June 29, 1926 in Ft. Riley, Kansas.
George was a 1947 graduate of City High School in Chattanooga. He was a WW II Veteran of the U.S. Navy as a Seabee and a Veteran of the Korean War. He received the Victory Medal, Phillipine Liberation Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal and was a member of the Ancient Order of The Deep.
He was a member of Northside Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Tennessee Aquarium, Number Plate Collectors Club (NPCC), Automobile License Plate Collectors Association (ALPCA), National Association Breweriana Advertising (NABA), and Carolina Collectors Club (CCC). He was a life member of the Tin Can Sailors Inc., the USS Charles J. Badger DD 657 Association and Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 14 for 66 consecutive years, the Chattanooga Zoo and the Chattanooga Regional History Museum.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Cathey Love, whom he married on August 19, 1949.
Survivors are three daughters; Janie Love (Tim) Hamilton, Cathey Love (Mark Moffit), and Nancy Love (Jeff) Cardwell; three grandsons, Aaron McCreless (and his father, Bill McCreless), Ethan and Alex Cardwell.
The family will receive friends from 4 until 8 p.m. Monday, January 2 and from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 3 at the North Chapel.
Services for George will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Ben Skidmore officiating. Burial will be at Chattanooga Memorial Park.
