Glenn was born March 1, 1932 in Dillard, Missouri, to Arlie and Carrie Cottrell. He graduated from Cherryville High School, worked in St Louis, joined the Air Force and then married Betty Lue Henslee. Glenn and Betty moved to Texas, Missouri, Illinois and finally Hixson, Tennessee, where they spent over 40 happy years.
Glenn joined the U.S. Air Force in 1952 and served four years, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant, and was honorably discharged in 1956. He then attended the Rolla School of Mines, graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He started working at Mueller Company in Decatur, Illinois in 1960 and moved with them to Chattanooga in 1968. He remained at Mueller his entire career, retiring in 1995.
Glenn was an active member of Highland Park Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon, usher, and served on the Baptismal and Counting Committees for several years. He was a strong supporter of Tennessee Temple schools and Camp Joy. Glenn was also a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and always attended their monthly meetings.
He was an expert clocksmith and fixed many a clock in the Chattanooga area. He loved spending time in his workshop, where he could, and did, fix anything and everything.
Glenn was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. His sparkling eyes, sense of humor, mischievous grin and his love will be greatly missed by his daughter, Diane (Ron) Daniel; son, Kevin (Malissa) Cottrell; grandchildren, Jessica Daniel, John and Liana Daniel, Julie and Shane Cash, Drew Cottrell and Reagan Cottrell; brother, Vernon (Jerrie) Cottrell; sisters-in-law, Sandy Cottrell and Patsy (Larry) Nesbit; many nieces and nephews and other relatives.
A committal service for Glenn will be held at Chattanooga National Cemetery on Tuesday, January 24 at 2:30 PM with Rev. Bob Circeo of Highland Park Baptist Church officiating.
