Gloria was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, nurse, and faithful servant of God. She passed away surrounded by the love of her family, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, service, and unwavering faith that touched countless lives throughout the Chattanooga community, region, and beyond.
Gloria dedicated her life to caring for others. As a registered nurse, she was known not only for her exceptional clinical knowledge but also for her extraordinary compassion and genuine love for people. She believed every person deserved dignity, kindness, and quality care. Her passion for serving others led her to found TLC Home Health and Hospice, where she built an organization centered on treating patients like family. Through her leadership and vision, she improved the lives of countless individuals and inspired those who had the privilege of working alongside her.
Above all else, Gloria's greatest joy was her family. She was a loving mother, a proud grandmother, and a cherished great-grandmother who celebrated every milestone and treasured every moment spent with those she loved.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of many years, Douglas Dodds, and by her parents, John Hurst and Peggy Maudell Hurst.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Shawn Burks (Susan), Todd Burks (Cheryl), Brent Burks (Brittney), and Barrett Burks (Missy); her grandchildren, Caleb Burks (Julia), Michael Burks (Kylie), Rebekah Aranda (Samuel), Alex Burks, Luke Burks, Julie Burks (Ethan Peebles), Grant Burks, Grace Burks, and Anna Cate Burks; her great-grandchildren, Addie Grace, Charlotte, and Ezra; and her brothers Johnny Hurst (Gail) and Gary Hurst.
Gloria will be remembered for her compassionate heart, selfless service, enduring faith, and the remarkable difference she made in the lives of so many. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of love, caregiving, and Christian devotion will continue to live on through her family, friends, and all those blessed to have known her. The family will forever cherish her memory and find comfort in knowing she is now at peace in the presence of her Lord.
The family will receive friends from 10-12 Saturday, July 18 at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home followed by a funeral service at noon. Interment will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the UTC College of Nursing in honor of Gloria's lifelong dedication to the nursing profession, the compassionate nurses who cared for her, and her enduring commitment to educating and inspiring future generations of nurses. Gifts can be made online at give.utc.edu/gloriadodds.
