Gordon Milan Gorenshek, age 75, of Hixson passed away Sunday. He was born April 8, 1936 in Lorain, Ohio the son of the late Frank and Johanna Gorenshek. Mr. Gorenshek was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus. He was an Army Veteran serving with the Signal Corps. Following a career as a mechanical draftsman he enjoyed his retirement working at Lowes with his many friends there. He also enjoyed spending time with his granddaughters who he loved very much and it always brought a smile to his face to hear them call him Papa. There was always space on the refrigerator for another picture of one of his girls and there was always tapioca pudding inside for them. Gordon liked to garden and always found the time to take care of the birds and squirrel that would visit the many feeders in the yard.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years Lois Gorenshek; daughters Lora (William) Trotter and Lisa (Grant) Dobson; grandchildren Abigail Dobson, Hayley Trotter, Chloe Dobson and Sofia Dobson; brother Leo (Bernice) Gorenshek; sister Nancy Gorenshek; several nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be celebrated 11:00 am Friday October 28, 2011 at St. Jude Catholic Church with Father Charlie Burton officiating. Interment will follow at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 4-8 Thursday at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
