Ila Grimsley Burns

She was born in Cookeville, Tennessee and has been a longtime resident of the Chattanooga area. Ila was a former employee with Dupont Corporation and spent many years in the retail business. She was a member of Hixson First Baptist Church, Grace Sunday School Class and the Golden Glows. She was always involved with her children’s activities, serving as Den Mother, Brownie Leader and the PTA. Ila loved the Tennessee Lady Vols basketball teams.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Burns, Jr.; her parents, Bryan and Maggie Adcock Grimsley; sister, Arlene Grimsley and a granddaughter, Robyn Elaine Burns.

Ila is survived by her two children, Randy Burns (Lawrence Franklin, III) and wife Donna and Phyllis Byrd; granddaughter, Rachel Howard and husband Michael; great grandchildren, Ezra Howard and Trevor Lawrence Burns; brother, William Grimsley; and several nieces and nephews..

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 pm on Friday, January 2, and 10:30 to 11:30 am on Saturday at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

A celebration of life services will follow at 11:30 am on Saturday at the North Chapel with Reverend Terry Shannon officiating. Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in Ila’s name to the Bethel Bible Village, 3001 Hamill Road, Hixson, TN 37343
