Irene Henderson Shamblin

Irene was a native and lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area, distinguishing herself in service not only as a wife and mother but also as Chief Executive Secretary to several Presidents at Kayo Oil Company and later Conoco Oil Company. She and her late husband Gordon were members of area Churches of Christ culminating at Hixson (Clear Creek) until her husband’s death and complications due to illness kept her home bound.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Henderson and Lena Holloway; husband, Horace Gordon Shamblin; and her siblings, Ralph Henderson and Juanita Henderson Woody of Chattanooga and Gerald Henderson of Long Beach, CA.

Irene is survived by her two sons, Charles Shamblin and wife Sonja of Chattanooga and David Shamblin and wife Gwen of Brentwood, TN; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 11 am to 1 pm on Tuesday, January 6, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

A celebration of life service will follow at 1 pm on Tuesday at the North Chapel with Minister Joey Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family has asked that memorial contributions be made in lieu of flowers to Clear Creek Church of Christ, 5612 Hixson, Pike, Hixson, TN 37343 or Boyd Buchanan School, 4650 Buccaneer Trail, Chattanooga, TN 37411.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
