

Ivan M. (Bud) Shay, 89, Cleveland, TN, passed away at his home on October 4, 2020 after an extended illness. He was born in Great Bend, PA and grew up in Binghamton, NY. He served 4 years in the U.S. Air Force ending his tour of duty at Donaldson Air Force Base in Greenville, South Carolina where he met and married his wife of 65 years. They lived in South Carolina until moving to Chattanooga, TN in 1973 to work with Greyhound Lines in management. He lived in Hixson, TN 35 years before moving to Cleveland, TN in 2008. Bud was a member of Hixson First Baptist Church and a men's Bible class before joining North Cleveland Baptist Church and a men’s Bible class after moving to Cleveland. He was an avid sports fan and attended all of the Tennessee Vols home games after moving to TN.
He was preceded in death by his parents Helen Lewis Shay and Ivan Miller Shay, Sr., mother-in-law, father-n-law, Ruth and Pride Batson, sister-in-law, Rita Sherrer, brothers-in-law, Sam and James Batson, and Raymond Crisp.
Survivors include his wife Joyce, son Jimmy Shay of Chattanooga, son and daughter-in-law Mike and Kim Shay, granddaughter, Darbi Shay all of Cleveland, sisters-in-law Margaret Crisp and Jan Batson of Greenville, SC, brother-in-law Bryson Sherrer of Cary, NC and several nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation due to Covid 19. Graveside Service will be held at Hamilton Memorial Gardens, 5401 Hwy 153 Hixson, on Thursday, October 8th at 10:00 am with Dr. Jay McClusky officiating. Memorials can be sent to Orange Grove Center, 615 Derby St. Chattanooga, TN 37404. Arrangements are under the care of the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
