JAMES DAVID (JIMBO) ALLEN

On Wednesday, May 26, 2021 in the early morning hours, our beloved brother entered heaven’s portal into the arms of Jesus and his mother and father.

Jimbo was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on September 18, 1960. He was named after his grandfather Jim Dave Allen, whom we never had the privilege to meet.

It was shortly after his birth that my parents were given the news that he was a special needs baby who had Down’s Syndrome. Our mother said we were blessed to have him, an angel, who knew no pride, lust, greed, or cunning intellectualism. He was perfect and knew no wrong.

He loved the simple things in life: An Orange Crush soda, a bag of Cheetos, his blanket, Harriet, his service dog, and a tender touch or holding hands. His favorite activity was riding through a car wash with all the bright colored soap bubbles and the swishing of the long wash rags’ back and forth motion. He loved to listen to music and watch tv or go to a movie. He lost his roommates and best friends Frosty and Tyrone prior to his departure from his group home. Jimbo was a little fellow who sported a cool bandana and cap on most days to accompany his favorite “rocking that extra chromosome” t- shirt. Everyone loved him and he loved everyone else. His contagious laughter would penetrate your soul.

His parents, Carl David Allen (deceased 2018); and Betty W. Allen (deceased 1977) loved and adored him more than any child could ever hope for. As a baby and child, he endured many illnesses and required special care. That care continued throughout his life. We thank all those special persons involved in his care for their love and dedication to him. Especially his stepsister Kristy Kurrelmyer Cross who loved and cared for him in the last years of his life.

He will be sorely missed by his survivors: Sisters: Karen Allen Naumann of El Paso, Texas and Glenda (Donald) Bryson of Chattanooga, Tennessee; One Brother: Carl (Michelle) Allen of Blairsville, Georgia.

Other survivors include: Several nieces: Melissa (Clay) Moon, Heather Bryson, Rebecca Bryson Spencer (John), Catey Allen and Julie G. Allen. Several nephews: John S. Misha, David Michael (Wes) Bryson, and James Carl (JC) Allen. Several great nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Chattanooga Funeral Home on Highway 153 at 12:00pm Saturday, June 5th with Rev. Donnie Bryson officiating. Family will receive guests from 11-12 Saturday. He will be laid to rest with his long awaiting mother and father in Hamilton Memorial Gardens, Garden of the Apostles. Pallbearers include: Wes Bryson, JC Allen, Ian Reardon and Jacob Reardon.

Arrangements are under the care of the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson. Please share your thoughts and memories at www.chattanooganorthchapel.com

What a beautiful tribute to a man whom I unfortunately never had the pleasure to meet.
His parents surely have a special place in heaven. Now they are joined with their son.
How wonderful.!
