James "Tommy" William Thomas Campbell Sr.

James William Thomas (Tommy) Campbell, age 80, passed away on July 19, 2023 with his son and daughter-in-law at his side.

Tommy was born in 1943 in Chattanooga and grew up in the Hixson area. He attended Hixson High School and, afterward he served his country in the United States Navy during the Cuban missile crisis in the 1960’s.

Throughout his life, he resided in the Chattanooga area and was an employee of DuPont until his retirement.

Tommy was a long-time member of the Creeks Bend Golf Course and loved playing golf and playing cards with his Creeks Bend buddies along with telling his embellished stories. However, his greatest joy was spending time with his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Beatrice and L. R. “Rube” Campbell; his beloved daughter, Misty Campbell; brother, Gary Campbell, and sister, Denise McGee.

Tommy is survived by his son, James W. T. (Tee) Campbell, Jr., daughter-in-law, Tracy Campbell, granddaughter Hope Mclendon (George Smith), great-granddaughter Olivia Grace, 3 nephews, 6 nieces, sister-in-law, Donna Campbell, and many beloved cousins.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 29, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel. A funeral service will follow in the chapel with Pastor Phil Harris officiating. Burial will be at Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Hixson.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
