
James Lucius Clements, Jr., 76, of Trenton, Georgia went home to Heaven to again be with his beloved wife of 52 years, Bonnie Powell Clements, who preceded him in death by 2 years. Also preceding Mr. Clements in death were his parents, the Reverend J.L. and Thelma Clements, Sr., of Berry, Alabama. He is survived by his daughter, Melody (Britt) Gaston of Trenton, Georgia and son James (Ginger) Clements III of Huntsville, Alabama. Mr. Clements “PaPa” and his wife “Nannie” adored and loved all of their grandchildren which includes grandson Brittain Gaston, granddaughters Meredith Gaston, Rebekah, Amie, Elizabeth and Lori Clements, one great granddaughter Alice VanDerveer, sisters, Emogene Armistead of Demopolis, Alabama, Wymbreth Gresham of Atlanta, Georgia, Martha (Lewis) Springer of Tellico Village, Tennessee, sister-in-law Jean Powell Alverson, Mobile, Alabama, brothers-in-law Harold (Jane) Powell and Wendell (Faye) Powell, both of Greenville, Alabama. He also had many nieces and nephews who loved him and were equally loved in return.
Mr. Clements grew up on a farm near Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He was a graduate of Howard College, now Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Most of his career as an accountant was spent with the Bessemer Utilities in Bessemer, Alabama. Mr. Clements was also proud to be a Grand Patron and member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Following his retirement he and his wife relocated in Trenton, GA to be closer to their daughter and her family. He also assisted his daughter in her business, Gaston Therapy and the Center for Pediatric Therapy. Until his health prevented it, he was an active member of the Brainerd Baptist church in Chattanooga, TN, and was both fond of and blessed by the Friendship Sunday School Class.
The family wishes to thank the kind and loving Hospice of Chattanooga as well as the many friends who graciously helped with his care. Services honoring his life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Barry Wilks officiating. Interment will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens. Memers of the Friendship Sunday School Class of Brainerd Baptist Church will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. The family will receive friends for visitation from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements under the direction of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist-North Chapel, Hixson, TN.
