Jim grew up in East Ridge and graduated from East Ridge in 1976. He earned B.S. and M.Ed. degrees from UTC. Jim will be remembered as a quick-witted person with a dry sense of humor who made people laugh. He was an avid reader and loved spending time with his family and his beloved dog, Sophie.
He worked as the personnel officer for the Chattanooga Public Library system for twenty-four years, retiring in 2020.
Jim is survived by his wife, Maria Cooper, daughter, Jaimee Cooper, and sister, Anita Cooper, along with many extended family members.
In accordance with Jim's wishes, the body will be cremated and no funeral services will be held. A private ceremony will be held at the gravesite of the Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel in Hixson.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Chattanooga for their excellent care and support during this difficult time. Special thanks to Social Worker, Faedra McKitrick; CNA, LaShonda Franklin; RNs Amy Neal, Amanda Morrison, Stephanie Austin and Lisa Simcox.
