James was born in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Nathan Askew and Ola Mae Thornton Crumbley. He was a graduate of Emory University where he received his BS in Electrical Engineering. James served our country as a Naval Aviator during World War II serving in the United States Navy. James retired from General Electric with over 49 years of service. He has been a longtime resident of the Signal Mountain area. James was a charter member of Signal Crest United Methodist Church and member of the Parks Sunday School Class. James has been involved in the Masonic Lodge and Alhambra Shrine for over 50 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Marion Louise Hanson Crumbley; sister, Betty Mae O’Neill; brother, Reverend Askew Crumbley.
James is survived by his sons, Thomas N. (Jarien) Crumbley, MD of Scottsdale, AZ and William “Bill” R. (fiancé` Jaime Blach) Crumbley, MD of Tampa, FL; 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchild; many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 pm on Friday, October 30, at the North Chapel.
A celebration of life service for James will be held at 10 am on Saturday at Signal Crest United Methodist Church, 1005 Ridgeway Ave, Signal Mountain, TN with Reverend Bill Thornton officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 3 pm on Saturday at Flora Hills Memorial Gardens, 3000 Lawrenceville Highway, Tucker, GA 30084.
We respectfully request that "social distancing", wearing masks at all times, and all CDC measures be adhered to at the funeral home and cemetery.
The family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Signal Crest United Methodist Church or your favorite charity.
