Jim was born in Charleston, Tennessee to the late Will C. “Bill” and Isabele Haney Munger. He attended Birchwood High School. Jim served our country in the United States Army for over 8 years in Germany. Jim and his wife owned and operated Haney Service Company and then Jim retired from the City of Chattanooga’s Maintenance Department. He was a longtime member of Delashmitt Road Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, served on the deacon board for many years, chairman of the deacon board and was a Sunday School teacher.
Jim is survived by his wife of 65 years, Erma Raye Wright Haney; sons, Tony (Renae) Haney and Todd Haney; grandchildren, Beth (Adam) Reed, Brooke (Sgt. Michael) Cravey, Blake Haney, Brittany (Michael) Everett, Bubba (Brittany) Haney, Becca (Nick) Thomas, and Brandon Haney; 10 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 pm on Tuesday, July 14, and 11:30 am to 12:30 pm on Wednesday, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life Service for Jim will follow at 12:30 pm on Wednesday at the North Chapel with Pastor Ronnie Smith, his nephew Johnny Hood and Doug Hinshaw officiating.
Burial will be in National Cemetery with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jim’s name Bethel Bible, 3001 Hamill Road, Hixson, TN 37343.
