Jan was born in Birmingham, AL . She worked, until retiring , with Office of Hearings and Appeals.
She is preceded in death by her parents Harry and Mary McDowell; her sister Mary Patricia Hazelrig
Jan is survived by her husband Thomas W. Vowell Sr.; her sons Thomas W.(Jenny) Vowell, Jr. and Michael Scott Vowell; grandson Peyton Riley Vowell; her brother Harry McDowell, Jr.; sister Carole Posey and many nieces, nephew, and friends.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 5, 2013 from 2-6pm and Monday, May 6, 2013 from 12 noon until the time of service at Chattanooga Funeral Home- North Chapel.
Jan’s funeral service will be conducted Monday, May 6, 2013 at 2pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Terry Shannon officiating. Interment to follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Jan’s name to Hixson First Baptist Church, 5800 Grubb Road, Hixson, Tennessee 37343
