He was a graduate of the Merchant Marine Academy where he was on the baseball team, and also a graduate of Georgia Tech with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He served his country during World War II and the Korean War in the U.S. Navy. He retired from DuPont after over 35 years of service.
Moke was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Westbrook Martin; his parents, Gerald E. and Beatrice Martin, a sister, Dot Spratlin and a brother, Gerald Martin, Jr.
He is survived by his son, Bob Martin of Chattanooga; sisters, Sis McDaniel, Barbara Wages and Arlene Topley all of Atlanta; brothers, Jim Martin of Atlanta and Herb Martin of Dalton.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 18 at the Chapel of Devotion at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Mary Jayne Allen officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m. Monday at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 401 Gateway Avenue, Chattanooga, TN 37402 or the charity of your choice.
