

Jean Dunlap Coy, a longtime resident of Chattanooga, TN, died on Friday, January 27, 2012, in St. George, Utah, at the age of 96. Born in Dayton, TN, Jean Coy was preceded in death by her cherished husband, Colonel (Ret.) Henry John Coy and her parents, James Clyde and Mildred Ethel Stout Dunlap.
Educated at Bryan College, Mrs. Coy worked in the private sector for many years after employment with the Justice Department in Washington, D.C.
Throughout her life, Jean Coy expressed her strong faith through service to others within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Continued compassion for others was evidenced by her weekly volunteer work with Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga which spanned twenty years.
She is survived by her beloved daughters Jean Shipley of St. George, UT, and Elaine Hutcheson of Ooltewah, TN; and brother-in-law, Victor J. Coy of Salt Lake City, UT. She is also survived by grandchildren Heather Hutcheson Ingram, Chattanooga, TN; Dr. Jennifer Johnson of North Kingstown, RI; Katherine Nielson of Susanville, CA; Holly Hutcheson; and Matthew Shipley, St. George, UT, as well as by six great-grandchildren and nieces Margaret Howard and Karen Johnston.
Services will be held at the North Chapel of the Chattanooga Funeral Home, Highway 153, on Friday, February 3, at 12:00 p.m. with Bishop Jason Isaacson officiating. Visitation prior to the funeral will be from 11 a.m. until 12 noon. Private interment will take place at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to personal charities.
