J.L. Downer, Jr., 74, of Hixson, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2016. He was born on May 27, 1941 in Dekalb, Alabama. He worked for the post office for twelve years and later owned and operated Downer Mobile Pressure Cleaning Service for thirty-eight years. J.L. was a member of Violet Hill Baptist Church and a thirty second degree mason. He was a member of Alhambra Shrine Temple and Alhambra Buggy Patrol. He also enjoyed cars and working on the farm. He is preceded in death by his parents J.L. and Essie Downer, Sr. He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Patsy Downer; daughter, Kimberly (Dewayne) Lankford and granddaughter, Katilyn Lankford. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 pm on Wednesday and Thursday, October 5th and 6th, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, October 7th, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. The burial to follow at Sulphur Springs Cemetery in Sulphur Springs, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alhambra Shrine Temple Transportation Fund, 1000 Alhambra Dr, Chattanooga, TN 37421.
