Johan was born on November 6, 1977, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and from the very beginning, she was someone special. Those who had the privilege of knowing her quickly discovered what so many already knew — that Johan was the kind of person who makes the world a gentler, more beautiful place simply by being in it. She saw the good in everyone, loved without holding back, and would give anything of herself for the people she cared about.
Johan served her community through her calling and career of nursing, which suited her perfectly, as compassion was not something she practiced; it was simply who she was. She carried that same spirit of care and dedication into every room, every relationship, and every life she touched.
Johan was a gifted artist in every sense of the word. She painted and drew with breathtaking skill, crafted with creativity and joy, and baked cakes so beautiful they looked like works of art — because they were. Her hands were always creating something wonderful.
She is the beloved wife of Matthew Gerard, her soul mate of 24 years, and the devoted mother of two children who were truly the loves of her life. Her daughter Sofia, 25 — whom Johan affectionately called her "rock" — is married to Chris, and together they gifted Johan her greatest joy: her grandson Wren, the light of her life. Her son Matthew, 22, held an irreplaceable place in her heart. Quiet by nature but mighty in love, he was a steady and devoted presence by her side — the one she called "my good boy," and in every way that matters, he was.
Johan is adored by her family, her patients, her friends, and everyone fortunate enough to cross her path. She leaves behind a legacy written not in words, but in the countless lives she touched, the love she gave freely, and a smile that none of us will ever forget.
She did not just live her life — she poured it out for others, and we are all the richer for it.
