John Lucien Ellington, 73, passed away on May 21st, 2024. Born in Greenwood, Mississippi, he was the youngest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. C. O Ellington of Glendora, Mississippi. A lifelong learner, Lucien earned degrees from Mississippi State University, the University of Minnesota, and his Doctorate of Education from the University of Mississippi and focused his studies on Economics, Government, History, and Education. Lucien was a valued member and tenured professor at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga for 40 years. During his time at UTC, Lucien served in the School of Education, coordinated the annual Constitution Day, and contributed greatly to the Center for Reflective Citizenship. Lucien also served as the editor for the Education About Asia magazine and Director of the Asia Program at UTC. Lucien was preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. C. O Ellington and brothers Claude and Webster Ellington. Lucien is survived by his wife Charlotte Ellington, former spouse Betsy Darken and their son Bobby (Jazzy Barrows) Ellington, step-daughter Eleanor (Daniel) Weaver, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
