John Henry “Skeeter” Winston, 88, passed away Friday, February 1, 2013 at a local hospital. A native of, Lafayette, Alabama, he was a long-time resident of Chattanooga. He was a member of Orchard Park Seventh Day Adventist church and retired from Hamilton County Schools.
Skeeter was a gardener and fisherman and loved the Atlanta Braves. He was married for 66 years to Susie Kirk Winston, who survives him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Winston Jr and Louise Scott Winston; sister, Mary Ellis, daughter, Lydia Asare and grandson, Mark Anthony Winston.
Survivors include his wife, Susie; children, Juliette Winston, Barbara Winston, Brenda Winston, Johnnie M. (John) Baker, Doris Harris, James Winston, Johnny M. (Elnora) Winston, Vivian McKenzie, Connie (Ali) Panahaghi and Wayne (Susan) Winston, sisters in laws, Melinda Blakely, Annie Kirk; 21 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 PM to 8 PM Thursday at the North Chapel. A funeral service will be held at I PM Friday at Orchard Park Seventh Day Adventist Church with burial to follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
