Joseph Christopher Magee, 73, left us on January 8, 2025 at his home in Harrison, Tn. Chris was a man known for his warmth, generosity, and infectious sense of humor. His vibrant personality and love for life touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Chris was born in Savannah, Ga, and was a graduate from Herschel V. Jenkins High School in 1969, from which he maintained relationships with his closest friends until his passing. Chris received a master’s degree in business from Armstrong State University (Georgia Southern) in Statesboro. He then attended the University of Georgia, earning an Environmental design degree and worked for a civil engineering firm for a while. Chris decided to return to school, earning a degree in computer programming. He worked as an IT Software Engineer for Cigna in Chattanooga. He was a veteran of the Army National Guard during his college days.
Chris is survived by his three incredible stepdaughters, Allison Gonzalez (Orlando), Erin Bornhoeft, and Lindsey Harris (Craig), and step-grandchildren Baylee, Andrew, Libby, Lilly, JB, and Jack along with two sisters, Cathy Magee McBrayer and Connie Magee Williams, several cousins, bestest friend Kaye Burch along with many other beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Johnsie Magee as well as his devoted wife, Mary David Magee, who passed away in December 2020. The love Chris shared with Mary was profound and unwavering, and their bond was a testament to the deep connection they had built together over the years. Chris never stopped cherishing the memories they created and the life they shared.
Known for his generous spirit and sharp wit, Chris had an incredible ability to make people laugh, always knowing how to brighten a room with a well-timed joke or playful comment. His humor, combined with his selflessness, made him a cherished friend and father figure to many. Chris’s favorite drink was iced tea and while at UGA he would invite close friends over whenever he made a fresh pitcher. He was a patient and generous person with his time, and he was capable and willing to help do skilled jobs around your home to help you out. Chris had a passion for music that he shared with those around him. He loved singing, and many will remember him performing at local open mics, where his voice and charm captivated audiences. Music was an essential part of Chris's life, and it was through his songs that he connected with friends, family, and even strangers in ways words alone could never express. He also enjoyed sailing his small sailboat. He was a true friend, as demonstrated by the enduring bond he shared with dozens of close friends he grew up with in Savannah.
A memorial service celebrating Chris’s life will be held at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel in Hixson TN, on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 3:00 pm with visitation from 2-3 pm. The family invites you to join them in remembering Chris and his legacy of laughter, love, and music.
