Born on September 7, 1964, Kelly Lee Atkins lived life with a big heart and a fun-loving spirit that drew people to him everywhere he went. He was the kind of person who never met a stranger, always willing to share a story, lend a hand, or invite someone over to the lake.
Kelly was preceded in death by his parents, Bettie Atkins and Troy Atkins, and his brother, Troy Lynn Atkins.
He is survived by his sister, Dee (Dennis) Clark; nieces and nephews, Dena (Brandon) Malone, Jamie Perez, Danica (Anthony) Powell, and Troy (Katelyn) Atkins; along with two great-nieces, two great-nephews, and many cherished cousins. He also leaves behind a wide circle of close friends who were, in every sense, his chosen family.
Kelly was a 1981 graduate of Red Bank High School. He completed Captain’s school, which led him to travel the world and have a life of adventure. He retired from Tennessee American Water Company after over 20 years of dedicated service. He was respected for his hard work, loyalty, and the friendships he built over the years.
He loved spending time outdoors and especially loved the water — whether at the lake, the ocean, or out fishing. Hunting, racing, entertaining at the dock, and spending time with family and friends were some of the things that brought him the most joy.
To many, Kelly was known as “Kel” or “Uncle Fun,” names that perfectly reflected his fun-loving spirit and the joy he brought to those around him. He will be remembered for his humor, his kindness, his generous heart, “check-in” phone calls, and the countless memories he created with the people he loved.
Kelly will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but the memories, laughter, and love he shared will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.
The family will host a drop in celebration of life well lived at Red Bank Cumberland Presbyterian on Saturday, May 30th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
