

Faithful husband, father and grandfather, Kenneth Paul Newton, 75, celebrated his homecoming in heaven on Friday evening, April 8th, 2011. His wife of 53 years, Barbara, and daughter, Leza, were holding his hand by his side at Alexian Health Care. Ken graduated from Chattanooga High School and attended Tennessee Tech. He served in the United States Army Reserves. Ken retired from Combustion Engineering after over thirty years of service. He was a long-time member of his much-loved Brainerd Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, youth leader, adult Sunday school teacher and choir member. Ken was also a member of Oakwood Baptist Church, serving as a deacon, youth leader, and choir member. Most recently, Ken was a member of First Centenary United Methodist Church. Ken is preceded in death by his father, Leland Paul Newton, mother, Blon B. Newton and several beloved aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Williamson Newton, sister, Shirley Newton Bland, daughter, Leza Newton Simpson, son-in-law, David A. Simpson, granddaughters, Hannah Caroline Simpson and Elizabeth “Lizzy” Grace Simpson. Graveside services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Rev. David Harr officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home. The family is honored to have Jack deSabla, George Brown, Von Simpson, Mark Simpson, Connor Simpson and Ed Craig as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, American Heart Association, First Centenary United Methodist Church or Chattanooga Nature Center.
