Larry Joe Lyda, 68, of Sale Creek, TN, passed away on Friday, November 13, 2015
Larry served as Deputy Chief of Police with the Chattanooga Police Department for over 30 years.
Larry had served as Chief of Police in Stevenson Alabama.
Larry was a professor for over 30 years at University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
In addition to the Chattanooga Police Department service, he was also very proud of the Hamilton County 911 service. Larry was on the board of Directors and Chairman of the Hamilton County 911, Hamilton County 911 founding member an served on the board for 25 years, also served as Chairman and Vice Chairman.
Board past Commissioner of the Tennessee Peace Officers and Training Commission ( appointed by Governor Lamar Alexander), Chairman of the Chattanooga Area Law Enforcement Commission, Member of the Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police ( elected life time member in 2001 and only a few lifetime members), consultant of the Tennessee Law Enforcement Command College.
Larry received his diploma with the FBI National Academy Quantico, Virginia, Master of Criminal Justice from University of South Carolina with Honors, Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice form University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with honors, Associate of Science in Law Enforcement from NE Alabama State Community College from Rainsville, Alabama and Diploma form Chattanooga Police Training Academy .
Larry was preceded in death by parents Elbert lee and Lara York Lyda
Larry is survived by his wife of 20 years Tammy Lyda; son Daniel joseph Lyda; two brothers Hugh ( Wanda) Lyda and John ( Sonja) Lyda ; mother-in-law Mary Godwin; nephews John Bradley ( Beth) Lyda and Kenny (Tara) Lyda; niece Sonja Celeste Lyda. Uncle George and aunt Sylvia Nancarrow, Best and closet longtime friend Jerry W. Stiner

Visitation with the family will be on Monday, November 16, 2015 from 4-8 pm at Chattanooga Funeral Home-North Chapel and on Tuesday, November 17 from 4-6 pm
Funeral service for Larry will be conducted at 6 pm on Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Don Burkhalter officiating
Interment will be on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at 12 Eastern Time in Flat Rock Methodist Cemetery in Stevenson, Alabama (Next to Flat Rock Alabama Elementary School).
