Lewis, a.k.a. “Lew”, Higgins always made me feel at ease. His smile would warm up a room and make you feel good no matter what was going on in your life. He was a true friend to my father-in-law and they loved sharing sporting events together. I fondly remember his love for the University of TN Volunteers, thinking back on it that was the only time I ever heard him yell or even get upset. He was the type of man who would open his home and heart to people without even a second thought. I loved being around his caring and loving nature. He truly was an amazing man who will be missed by family and friends.

My family lived across the street from Lew, Pat and their boys. You couldn’t have better neighbors. It felt more like we were part of a bigger family as we were there for each other through the many good times and the few bad. Lew always had the knowledge, the tools and would take the time to fix something if broken. My parents went on several vacations with Lew and Pat and he would always plan the best route. As I grew and moved away from the neighborhood I always made a point to visit with him to discuss current events. He was always willing to listen and give advice on how to see the world based on a solid understanding of past. Always a humble but very capable man, he loved and was a fierce advocate of his family. He leaves behind a legacy of caring and concern for others that will be sorely missed for those of us fortunate to have known him. He will be well remembered until our time comes to an end and we go to our fathers as he has before us. Rest now Lewis, your race is run.
