Dr. Linwood Alan Robertson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2026, at the age of 82, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on January 21, 1944, in Farmville, Virginia, Linwood was the beloved son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Luther Robertson.
Linwood's life was a testament to dedication, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to the service of others. After graduating from Southern Missionary College in 1966, Linwood followed his calling into the ministry, earning his Master's in Theology from Andrews University in 1973 and completing his PhD in Theology in 1975. His thirst for knowledge and passion for helping others led him back to academia, where he completed a second PhD in Psychology from Forrest Institute in Huntsville, Alabama.
Throughout his career, Linwood served as a pastor to numerous congregations, including those in Alexandria, Virginia, and downtown Philadelphia. His pastoral work was characterized by his gentle spirit and his ability to connect deeply with those around him. Known for his open and engaging conversations, Linwood was someone who never shied away from a heartfelt discussion, always leaving those he spoke with feeling heard and valued.
After retiring from active ministry, Linwood transitioned into marriage and family counseling, where he focused on helping children. A true pioneer in his field, he introduced biofeedback therapy in Chattanooga, gaining recognition for his innovative work with children diagnosed with ADHD, even being featured on News Channel 9 for his groundbreaking approach.
Linwood was a devoted member of the Collegedale Seventh-day Adventist Church, where he found spiritual nourishment and a community of friends who shared his values and beliefs.
Beyond his professional achievements, Linwood was a man of many talents and interests. He had a passion for automobiles, and his creativity shone through in his stained glass and wood carving projects. These hobbies were a reflection of his patient, meticulous nature and his appreciation for beauty in all its forms.
Linwood was predeceased by his parents, Luther and Elizabeth Robertson, his sister, Karen Syfert, and his loving wife, Frances Ann Hartwell, with whom he shared a deep and abiding love. Together, they built a family that was the center of Linwood's world. He is survived by his sister Betty Lue Leach, his three children, Westley, Clinton, and Linnetta, who continue to carry forward his legacy of kindness and integrity.
His seven grandchildren, Megan, Madeline, Shiloh, Katherine, Hannah, Rachel and Joshua were a source of immense pride and joy for Linwood. His nurturing presence and wisdom will forever be a guiding light in their lives.
A celebration of Linwood's life will be held on June 12, 2026, at 3:00 PM at the Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist-North Chapel and Hamilton Memorial Gardens, located at 5401 TN-153, Hixson, TN 37343. Family, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by Linwood are invited to attend and honor his remarkable journey.
