Lorraine Burroughs Potter

Lorraine Burroughs Potter passed away early Monday morning. She was 88 years old. She was born on December 13, 1932 to the Rev. Hugh Judson Burroughs and Ethel Ann Burroughs, the eighth of eight children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. “Pete” Potter. She is survived by her daughter Lisa Bryant and son in law Dale Bryant, son Ralph Potter and daughter in law Jennifer Potter, and by her “other” son, Bobby Tallant. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Taylor Bryant Bowen, Tanner Bryant, Robert “Jud” Potter, and Ann Potter.

Mrs. Potter was a talented woman. Valedictorian of her class at Red Bank High School, she was also an accomplished organist and artist. She placed all of her skills at the service of her husband, children, and grandchildren. Elaborate school drama sets, costumes, elaborate banquets for the McCallie football team are just a few of the examples of her expressions of love for her family.

She was the number one fan and supporter of McCallie football for nearly 50 years, supporting both her husband and son as head coach, as well as the hundreds of McCallie boys on the team.

No family had a greater advocate than her. She was always there for each of us.

Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel at 10:00 AM, on Saturday, February 6, 2021, with Rev. Jimmy Byrd officiating. Interment will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 8:00 PM on Friday February 5, 2021.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Pete Potter Scholarship Fund at the McCallie School Development Office, 500 Dodds Avenue, Chattanooga, TN 37404.
