Mr. Bowden was born in 1927 in Newcastle upon Tyne in the UK. He spent his childhood in England before moving with his family to India and later to South Africa. Mr. Bowden returned to England in 1944 and worked as an engineer apprentice at Vickers Armstrong. He graduated with first class honors from London University in 1950. Mr. Bowden worked as an aeronautical engineer in the UK at Vickers, at British Overseas Airways Company (BOAC), and in Northern Ireland at Shorts Brothers and Harland. He moved his family to Atlanta, GA in 1966 and worked for Lockheed-Georgia Company until he retired.
Mr. Bowden’s wife of 60 years, Valerie Anne Emily Bowden, preceded him in death. He is survived by two daughters, Christine Cowart and Jane Diamantis; two sons-in-law, Merritt Cowart and George Diamantis; and two grandchildren, Irene Blanchard and Philip Diamantis; and their spouses Brett Blanchard and Colleen Diamantis; and three great grandchildren, Gavin Blanchard, Hudson Blanchard and Britton Blanchard. He had a wonderful sense of humor. He loved playing games with his great grandchildren (especially board games), blue skies, birds and vapor trails. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church for 15 years.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 11:00 am at Saint Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church, 7555 Ooltewah-Georgetown Road Ooltewah, TN 37363.
