She was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on October 24, 1928 to the late Dorrah Joseph and Margaret Nabors. Peggy graduated from Charlotte Central High School in 1946, and attended the University of Chattanooga. Shortly after moving from Charlotte with her family to Chattanooga, Peggy met the man who would become her husband, Jim Cole. Peggy did secretarial work, part of which was done jointly with her husband at the US Naval Ordnance Laboratory in Maryland. Their marriage became a genuine and deeply abiding love story that spanned more than 7 decades. Once their children arrived, Peggy’s full-time job became a nurturing and loving mother and making their house a home of many happy memories. She was currently a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed traveling to new places, went to India with her family when her husband’s job sent them there, loved her flowers, watching birds, her house near the lake, anything “blue”, loyal to her friends, and was very deeply devoted to her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Beloved husband of 70 ½ years, Jim Cole, who died 1-18-21. Although already frail, a broken heart contributed to her death. She joined her beloved husband on Valentine’s Day. She was also preceded in death by her brother David Nabors, son Edward Cole, great-great grandson Knox Taylor, and her son-in-law Terry Reynolds.
Survivors include sisters Aprille Quinn, and Jo Pelham, sister-in-law Peggy Nabors, son Bart (Ann) Cole, daughter Nancy Reynolds, 7 grandchildren, 12 great- grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She cared deeply for others, was generous, and hers was a life well lived.
