Margaret Ann Watson went home to be with the Lord on July 6, 2018. She is predeceased in death by her parents (Lottie John Watson and Blanche Fuller Watson) and her brother (L.J. Watson) and sister-in-law (Sparky Watson.).
Margaret is survived by her sister (Elizabeth Watson Baker), brother-in-law (Charlie Baker), and seven nieces and nephews.
Born on December 29, 1930, in Union, South Carolina, Margaret spent most of her life in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was a 1948 graduate of Harding High School. Following high school, she attended Bob Jones University for two years in Greenville, South Carolina, returning to Charlotte to begin her career.
Margaret’s entire career was spent working as an executive assistant at City National Bank for the Cuthbertson family. (City National later became part of BB&T.) She retired from her long, successful career there in 1995.
Her passion was playing the piano and organ, particularly sacred music.
As a young person, she used her talent to play the piano for Youth for Christ. Later she served as the main organist at Calvary Church in Charlotte for many years. Following her time there, she was the pianist for Dilworth Baptist Church.
In addition to her service at church, Margaret was a member of the Pilot Club of Charlotte, an international service organization whose mission is to influence positive change in communities throughout the world.
Margaret had a passion for life as evidenced by her multiple interests, as well as her strong commitment to her family and her pets. She loved going to the beach, baking, and traveling. Any stray cat or dog that wandered to her door was never turned away. Her nieces and nephews remember her as the “fun-loving” aunt, who was beyond generous when it came to lavishing attention and gifts on them. She was truly a devoted daughter, sister, and aunt, never shirking from sacrificial commitment when it was necessary. Margaret will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
Heartfelt thanks is extended to the wonderful staff of The Lantern at Morning Pointe, Hixson, Tennessee and its director, Sandra Parrish, for their love and care for Margaret while she was a resident there.
Visitation will be on Monday, July 9, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel. A service will be at 1:00 p.m. officiated by Tony Wilson, pastor of White Oak Baptist Church.
