Martha Estelle Cunningham, 81, of Hixson died Wednesday, March 8, 2023. She was born September 22, 1941 in Chattanooga to the late Garfield and Marie Cunningham. She taught in the Rivermont Elementary School, retiring in 1993. After her retirement, she continued to serve the area children at Spring Creek Elementary School. Miss Cunningham was teacher of the year 2014-2015. She was very active in the community, as a member of the Chattanooga Chapter of the Freedom Foundation of Valley Forge, serving as secretary then president of Gamma Chapter of Kappa Kappa Iota, president of Lambda Chapter of Kappa Kappa Iota, a was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority for Teachers.
Survivors include her brother, Tommy (Gloria Beattie) Cunningham; niece, Melissa Miller, Nephew, Steve Cunningham; great nephews, and niece, Marcus Benford, Chandler Cunningham, John Cunningham and Lizzie Cunningham; and good friends Tommy Fuller and Allene Gossman.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4-8 Friday March 10 at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 11:00 Saturday at the funeral Home.
Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
