Martha Louise Whisman

Born 1950, in Orlando, Florida, she graduated from Miami Christian's High School, class of 1967. She earned an Associate's degree in Computer Science from Miami Dade Junior College in 1969 and continued her education in 1983 with a Bachelor's in Business Management from Covenant College.

From 1970 through 1994, Martha worked as a computer programmer at Unum Provident. In 1994, she started her own business, The Spinning Wheel. Through her dedication, the venture flourished and is a source of inspiration to her family.

Martha valued faith and family above everything else. Her children, grandchildren, and many others have a firm foundation in God's Word thanks to her decades of service as Awana Commander and Sunday School teacher.

She never took up a task or hobby halfway. The passions she explored brought continual excitement, zest, and pleasure to her family. Her interests are far too many to list, but in the past years, Martha found great enjoyment in quilting with friends and raising goats with her husband. In the last year, she completed treasured quilts for each of her four grandchildren.

Martha is preceded in death by her parents William and Wanda Willcox.

Martha is survived by her husband, James Whisman III, Hixson; her three children Marcy (Jeff) Paulson, Hixson; James (Ginger) Whisman IV, Signal Mountain; and Amy (Matt) Weldon, Chattanooga; grandchildren, Clara and Everett Paulson, Hixson; Donnie and Maddie Whisman, Signal Mountain; sister Mary (Roger) Taylor, Dayton, TN; many more family, friends and her beloved kiko goats, who will all miss her greatly.

Her family will receive friends Wednesday, Oct. 12, 6-8 p.m. at the Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel, Hixson.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Oct. 13, 2 p.m. at North River Church, 5954 Highway 153, Hixson, with Pastor Duane Mabee officiating. A graveside service will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Arrangements are under the care of the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
