Born on March 9, 1935, in Brooklyn, New York, Marvin spent his life building, leading, and caring for others. As a hospital administrator, he founded a network of hospitals throughout the Southeast, creating a professional legacy that improved the lives of countless patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
In 1976, Marvin made Chattanooga his home, where he and his wife, Dorothy, raised their family and built a life filled with love, purpose, and enduring friendships. Dorothy preceded him in death.
Marvin is survived by his sons, John and Steven Stern, and five cherished grandchildren.
To his family, Marvin was more than his accomplishments. He was a source of strength, wisdom, humor, and unwavering support. He lived a long and full life, blessed with family, meaningful work, and the respect of those around him.
Perhaps the greatest comfort is that Marvin left this world exactly as he would have wanted: peacefully, asleep in his own bed, in the home where he raised his family and spent so many happy years. It was a fitting final chapter for a life well lived.
His legacy lives on in the family he loved, the lives he touched, and the institutions he helped build.
In lieu of flowers, Marvin had requested donations be made to either your local animal shelter or the Sierra Club conservancy.
