Mary Ruth Long

Born on January 19th, 1931, in Dawson Springs Kentucky, she spent her childhood and early adult years in Hopkinsville, KY. It was there that she met her childhood sweetheart and future husband, Carl. They married in 1952 and had two sons: Steve born in Hopkinsville in 1953 and Bruce, born in Louisville, KY in 1956. They remained married and in love until Carl's passing in 2018.

As an at-home mom, Mary Ruth was the anchor and source of home stability for the Long family. The family moved to eight different states as Carl pursued his career in corporate management. In 1977 Carl and Mary Ruth moved to the Chattanooga area where they resided for the remainder of their lives. She was an avid reader and oil painter who thrived on spending time with her family.

Mary Ruth is survived by her two adoring sons and their wives, Suzanne and Eileen, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Herman and Audrey Pool, four siblings, Harold, Herman, Velma and Clarice and remained in close contact with her many beloved nieces and nephews throughout the course of her life.

The family will receive visitors from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 am on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, at the North Chapel. Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
