Nancy attended Tyner High School where she enjoyed playing on the basketball team. She was employed with Graybar Electric, Lawson Electric in Chattanooga before moving to Spring City where she worked and retired at TVA'S Watts Bar Dam.
Nancy had a long retirement in Spring City where she was a member of Spring City United Methodist Church and was very involved with Spring City Women's Club, serving as president and other positions at various times.
She was also active in DAR, served in the sheriff's SCAN program for five years. Nancy and Leon belonged to Bicentennial Volunteers Inc. for over 25 years, having logged over 10,000 hours of services.
Nancy loved skiing in the beautiful mountains of the western states, Canada and Austria. She and Leon enjoyed that sport for many winters, at times with children and grandchildren. They also enjoyed square dancing with the Grandview Twirlers.
After moving to Ooltewah at age 87, she loved visits from family and neighbors on her screened in porch as they watched the golfers.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Bart Hicks, and great granddaughter, Jordan.
She is survived by her children, Gary Nelson, Linda Scruggs, and Bob (Diane) Hicks; grandchildren, Greg (Denise) Nelson, Colby (Lauren) Nelson, Jessi (Michael) Cowan, Summer (Shawn) Elliott, Shea (Bonny) Scruggs; her great grandchildren, Chloe, Eli, Connor, Daniel, Casey, Camille, Maddyn, Max, Maci, and Rhett.
We are thrilled to know she is with Jesus, Leon, Bart, Jordan, family and friends.
It was Nancy's wish that there would be no services. She and Leon will be buried beside Bart.
If you want to honor Nancy, tell someone about Jesus and do something kind for someone. She would love that.
