

Nancy, a Christian, wife, mother, and educator, resided in the Chattanooga area since age five after moving here from Crossville, TN. She graduated from Red Bank High School (1963) and the University of Chattanooga (B.S. degree-1967) and received her Master's Degree in Secondary School Administration and Supervision with a Minor in Behavioral Psychology from Middle Tennessee State University (1974).
Nancy taught English and History in the Chattanooga Public Schools from 1967 through 1997. She retired at age 52 with 30 years service having taught at Dalewood Jr. High School, Hardy Junior High School, North Chattanooga Junior High School (then Mrs. Nancy B. Knox), and Hixson Junior High/Middle School (Mrs. Nancy B. Kaley) the last seventeen years of her teaching career. She qualified for Level Ill of the Career Ladder Program (Gov. Lamar Alexander's Better Schools Program) in 1985. At the request of then Hixson High School Principal Tom McCullough, she (as a Level Ill Educator) designed and implemented a computer-based tutorial summer program to help students prepare for PSAT and SAT Tests. Gov. Lamar Alexander appointed her to the Better Schools Program Career Ladder State Certification Commission. In the summer of the 1971, she was employed by the Tennessee Valley Authority to train secretaries for summer employment while continuing to teach during the regular school year. It was in the summer of 1972 at TVA where she met the love of her life, her husband, Kary W. Kaley, Sr., to whom she was happily devoted for 45 years and married for 37 years and two months before his passing July 16, 2017.
Nancy is the daughter of James H. and Juanita Gracy Boston. Other family members that preceded her in death include her son, David L. Knox, IV (killed in motorcycle accident December 26, 2015) and Stepdaughter: Robin Lynn Ahlquist (passed away July 29, 2017).
Those left to cherish Nancy’s memory include her daughter, Julianna Boston; Stepsons: Kary W. Kaley, Jr. and Jay P. Kaley; brother, James H. Boston Jr.; 4 Grandchildren, 6 Step-grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, & 1 Step-great grandson.
