Ouida Felts Welborn, 94, peacefully went to heaven on December 7, 2020 at a local healthcare facility. Ouida Wood was born in McLemoresville, Tennessee on November 29, 1926; she was the second oldest of eight children.
She pursued a degree in Nursing at the University of Tennessee in Memphis, where she met her husband Charles B. Felts, Jr. They were married on December 28, 1950, and subsequently moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee. They had two boys, Charles Felts, III, and Thomas Felts. She later married George Welborn, Sr, and spent many years traveling and playing golf.
Ouida is preceded in death by her two husbands Charles B. Felts, Jr. and George Welborn, Sr. She was also preceded in death by her parents Earl Thomas and Avo Milam Wood. Siblings that have passed are Elizabeth Miller, Thomas Wood, Jr., and John Wood.
Ouida is survived by her sons Charles B. Felts, III (Suzanne) and Thomas Felts (Lisa). She has six grandchildren: Tommy Felts, Beth Randall, Miles Felts, Charles B. Felts, IV, Garrett Felts, and Robert Felts. She also has six great-grandsons. Her surviving siblings are Charlie Wood, Ken Wood, Leslie Wood, and Sue Crossett.
Ouida was active in many societies throughout her life including the Chattanooga Dental Alliance, Chattanooga Women’s Golf Association, and Riverview Garden Club. She was a devoted member of Concord Baptist Church and First Centenary United Methodist Church. Ouida had a special passion for golf. She spent most of her later years competing on the golf course, playing bridge, and spending time with her family.
Graveside Services will be held Saturday December 12, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Chattanooga Memorial Park, with Reverend Mark Gooden and Reverend David Harr officiating.
The family will receive friends from 4:00pm-7:00pm, Thursday, December 10th at Chattanooga Funeral Home – North Chapel, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, TN 37343.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to First Centenary United Methodist Church, 419 McCallie Ave., Chattanooga, TN 37402.
