Born to pioneer Signal Mountain families, The Conners, The C.E. James, and The Charles Adams, she was raised in Olde Towne and attended Signal Mountain and Chattanooga City Schools where she developed lifelong friendships. She met the love of her life, Marvin Eugene “Gene” Miles, through mutual friends, married in 1954. She and Gene moved off the mountain, built and made their home at the end of North Runyan Drive where the present Horse Creek Farms is located.
Saved by Faith, she was led to Christ at a Billy Graham crusade at Engel Stadium, developed a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and attended Signal Mountain Baptist and Signal Mountain Presbyterian churches with her family. After she moved from the mountain, she became a faithful and devout member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church where she was presiding secretary until only recently.
She made a career as the school secretary for Sequoyah Vocational and retired from the Hamilton County Department of Education.
Pat was driven by a Greater Good, taking her famous banana pudding and coconut cakes to hospital Emergency Room waiting areas for families. She loved fashion and was always dressed ‘to the nines’. She was an exceptional grandmother and had a close relationship to each of her grandchildren. Everyone will miss their Nana, Patsy, Pat and Momma.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, Preston and Louise Guthrie of Signal Mountain, and a special sister-in-law, Lois Miles Thompson.
She is survived by her children, Randy Lane Miles (Jett), of Hixson, Tennessee, and Lisa Jean Miles DeMars (Gregory K, Sr.), of Chattanooga and Harrison Tennessee. Her grandchildren, Kristina Lauren DeMars, Gregory Kirk DeMars Jr (Alice Ann Barber) , Kathleen Richey DeMars Chaney (Jordan), and Charles Conner DeMars. Her great-grandchildren, Sam and Wesley Chaney. Her sister, Sarah Ann “Sally” Guthrie Edgemon, Special Friends June Elliot and Brenda Basham, nieces and nephews that loved their Aunt Patsy, and a host of cousins and special friends.
Special thanks to Yolanda Jones and Gloria Ross for their loving care in her last months. The Family would like to thank the staff of Caris Healthcare, her nurse Michelle, and the staff of Assisting Hands.
Funeral services will be held at the graveside in Chattanooga Memorial Park on Saturday September 19, 2026, at 1:00 PM EDT, with Pastor Pat McKenna officiating. Prior to the service the family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 12:30 PM at North Chapel.
