She was born in Chattanooga in 1934 to Alma Elizabeth (Hinton) and William Henry Kistler. She grew up and went to school in Chattanooga attending Central High School and the University of Chattanooga for one year before her marriage in 1953 to Paul Eugene Fuller.
Her marriage and family were central to her adult life. She played a vital role in her husband’s academic career from helping to edit and typing his dissertation to hosting and mentoring students through his long teaching career, especially at Transylvania University.
While raising a family, she worked outside the home for many years primarily at the University of Kentucky. Also central to her life was her Christian faith and volunteer work, notably at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky and the Chattanooga Community Kitchen.
Peggy was known and cherished by many for her sweet disposition, her kindness, and her generosity. She was a generous storyteller with a massive talent for observational humor. She was a great storyteller because she saw the dignity in everyone, even those troublesome types she always overcame in her stories.
For many years, she was an active member of the Ashland Terrace Christian Church, fulfilling various roles in the church over the years. She cherished and was cherished by her church family. She was a prayerful person and a selfless one whose commitment to others and to the Lord inspired those around her.
In her later years, particularly after she was widowed, her life was especially enriched by her close relationship with her sister-in-law, Diane Adams, her faithful caregiver of many years, Pam Whigham, and the many kind and loving staff at Morning Pointe of Hixson.
Her hospice nurse shared that she had a pet name for her, calling her “her Miss Dolly” for comparison to the generosity of spirit and loving acceptance of the late singer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Eugene Fuller and her sister, Dorothy Ann Barger.
Survived by her children; Paul Eugene Jr., daughter; Lisa Ann Taft, grandchildren; Isabelle Taft (Gautama Mehta) and Will Taft, great grandson; Shyam Paul Taft Mehta, brother; Bill (Larry) Kistler and sister-in-law, Dewana Lindsey, her caregiver Pam Whigham, and the kind and loving nurses and RA’s at Morning Pointe of Hixson, and her church family at Ashland Terrace Christian Church.
