Phil Casseday, 82, passed away on Thursday May 14, 2026. Phil was born in Masontown, West Virginia on December 5, 1943, to Roy and Josephine Casseday, and lived in the Chattanooga area since the 1960s. He served on the Red Bank Police force as a sergeant for 20 years and was well respected and highly regarded among his peers. His co-workers and friends called him Hopalong after the cowboy hero Hopalong Cassidy, and he bore that nickname proudly, holding himself to a high standard in his police work. When he was not working, Phil enjoyed being outdoors, deer hunting, spending time with his family, and cheering for the Tennessee Vols. He and his six brothers, three sisters, and their families, have made the world a more beautiful place to be.
He will be remembered for his humor, his kindness, and his love for others.
Phil is survived by his two daughters, Teresa (Glenn) Rollins and Erica (Jacob) Miller; his brother, Bob Casseday; his three grandchildren, Ashley (Daniel) Tannahill, Noah Rollins, and Harper Miller, and his two great-grandchildren, Canon and Aria Tannahill who affectionately called him Papa Phil. He is also survived by three sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
Our hearts are saddened by our earthly loss, but rest in the Peace of a Heavenly Reunion.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday May 16, 2026, at 3:30 PM EDT in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association at alz.org or The Forgotten Child Fund, in Phil’s memory.
Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory, and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, Tennessee 37343.
