A native of Hollywood, FL, Ray graduated from Florida State University in 1952 with a bachelor's in political science and in 1954 with a master's in economics. After basic training, Ray was appointed to the Army Counter Intelligence Corp (CIC) at Fort Holabird in Baltimore.
While at Florida State, Ray met the love of his life, Ann Deal. They married in 1952, and were inseparable for 69 years. Ray served for many years as TVA's branch chief for the Fuels Planning division, retiring in 1989. After his family, Ray's great loves were classical music, traveling all over the world with Ann, stories of British tall ships, his riding mower, and his 20-pound Maine Coon cat.
Ray is preceded in death by his daughter Susan McCleskey Cade.
He is survived by his wife Ann, his daughter Patricia, three brothers, and a large extended family.
